Katherine M. Whitney
Katherine Whitney is a co-founder and director of Warren Whitney. She has over 25 years of experience in helping organizations reach their potential. Her primary areas of service are in the areas of strategic planning, board development, and organizational planning.
Management Experience:
Most of Katherine’s work involves understanding the current position of an organization and working with its staff, management, board members, and other supporters to determine future strategy and to create an approach to implement that strategy. The majority of her practice is focused on nonprofit organizations. She works with them in the areas of:
- Strategic planning, including establishing both longer-term strategy and shorter-term operating plans.
- Board development in areas such as board member cultivation, board assessments, and governance guidelines.
- Merger assessment from the feasibility study through implementation.
- Organizational planning to align operating plans with established strategy.
Katherine began her career with a focus in sales and marketing, working with clients in manufacturing and distribution industries. After working with management to develop an agreed-upon strategy, she was responsible for implementation including developing sales channels, managing communications plans, and working with external professionals to develop collateral material.
Education and Service:
Katherine received her MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her BS in Mathematics from Davidson College.
Current community service includes serving on the boards of Northstar Academy, a K-12 special education school, and the Heart of Virginia Council of the Boy Scouts of America. She is a 1992 graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond.
Previous board involvement includes St. Catherine’s School, The Virginia Home for Boys and Girls, the advisory board of the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond, The Greater Richmond Partnership, The Richmond Chamber, and RichTech.
She has been a speaker on a national seminar circuit for manufacturers and currently facilitates workshops on nonprofit governance topics.
